Low Latency

Low Latency refers to displays and display systems engineered to minimize the time between an input or signal change and what the user actually sees on the screen. In practice, it means faster response from touch, buttons, sensors, or video sources to visible updates—so motion feels more “connected,” UI interactions feel snappier, and control feedback is more immediate. Low latency is not the same as high refresh rate: refresh rate controls how often frames can be shown, while latency is the end-to-end delay caused by the pipeline (input capture → processing → transmission → frame buffering → panel scan-out). A well-optimized low-latency setup reduces lag, improves hand–eye coordination, and can prevent overshoot or misoperation in time-critical tasks.
Achieving low latency typically involves both panel characteristics and system-level choices. Using video-mode interfaces and reducing frame buffering helps cut delay; faster scan-out, higher refresh rates, and well-tuned overdrive can improve perceived responsiveness; and controller/SoC settings (vsync, double/triple buffering, scaling, and post-processing) often make a bigger difference than the panel alone. Low-latency displays are especially important for industrial control HMIs, robotics and automation, test and measurement instruments, machine vision monitoring, gaming and simulation, AR/VR preview or viewfinder use, and any application where real-time feedback and accurate timing matter.
